CSM (RET) Marion Wayne PriceFebruary 14, 1922 ~ September 24, 2017 (age 95)
Funeral services for Marion "Wayne" Price, age 95 of Clarksville, will be Wednesday, Sept 27, 2017 at 11:00 am at Sykes Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Ben Falls will officiate. Burial will follow in the Resthaven Memorial Gardens with full military honors. Visitation will be on Wednesday, Sept 27, 2017 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Sykes Funeral Home.
Another of the greatest generation has passed, CSM (RET) Marion Wayne Price passed away peacefully the 24th of September 2017 at the Tennessee State Veterans home here in Montgomery County. Wayne as he was known in the local community was born in Dean Dale, Texas, Valentine’s Day, February 14, 1922. Born the son of a Wildcat Oil Driller and raised in the oil fields of Texas, and if not for WWII he might have remained in Texas for the rest of his life. Mr. Price enlisted in the U.S. Army in July 1940 and saw service from the Coastal Artillery in California to European Theater of Operations. After the war ended like so many others of the time Wayne came back home to the oil fields, but it did not take him long before he returned to the Army where he remained until his retirement in 1962. While in the military he volunteered for Jump School at Fort Benning. During his military service he fought in two wars and made two combat jumps on the Korean peninsula where he was also wounded in combat. CSM Price also completed tours in Alaska, taught Jump School in Iran, and served as part of the Cadre of the first 11th Airborne Jump School Class #1 at Fort Campbell, KY.
CSM Prices’ military awards include the Soldier Metal for Heroism, Purple Heart, Air Medal Army Commendation Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars, European African Service Medal, with four Bronze Stars, American Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Master Parachutist Badge with 2 gold stars and Combat Infantryman Badge.
After his retirement Wayne remained here in Tennessee, he bought two farms in Montgomery County where he raised horses, cattle and crops. At his peak he farmed 700 acres and had 80 brood cows. He actively farmed until age 85.
Wayne was a Lifetime member of the 101st Airborne, Association Lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars post 11160, Lifetime Member The American Legion Post 0233, Lifetime Member 187th Airborne Regimental Combat Team Torii Chapter, 11th Airborne Division Association and a 32 degree Mason Queen City Lodge #761.
He was predeceased in death by his father, Leon (Blondie) Price; mother, Laura Pior Price, and his wife of 45 years Mary Lou McNeill Price.
He is survived by his son, CW5 (RET) Wayne L. Price (Donna), grandchildren, Jackson Price and Mary Bradley Price, wife, Fay Price; step-children, Kathy Slack, Tammy Williams, and Christina (Spencer) Bacon; 12 step-grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
