Donald Haskell Stringer was born in Safford, Arizona on March 13th, 1938 to Glen & Zelia Stringer and passed away on June 9th, 2025, in Clarksville, Tennessee at the age of 87 years.
Don and his parents moved shortly after being born to Vernon, Texas until he entered the US Army as a Paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division at age 17. Don married Lois Cole on April 20th, 1957 while being stationed at Ft. Campbell, Ky to the 101st Airborne Division for which he served for 2.5 years with the Army.
Don worked in several industries after the Military to include Construction for most of his life(he and Lois flipped houses throughout their marriage), National Life Insurance Company that then took a small family to California for a short while. They moved back to Tennessee and he started to drive for a Trucking Business for more than 20 years from one side of the US to the other, Don completed 49 States for his travels. He also did work with TVA and the completion of the Old Opryland Theme Park, DCI and Hopkinsville Airport.
He enjoyed traveling to see family and friends, fishing with his brothers, kids and grandkids, arrowhead hunting by far was his favorite with some amazing finds over the years, some even displayed in one of the Oklahoma Museums. But mostly storytelling with relatives, “Uncle Donnie” always had a story for the younger generation to hear and you were sure to get a chuckle out of everything he shared!
Don is preceded in death by his parents Glen & Zelia Stringer, siblings Gadson, Royce, Allen & Glenna and his son David Mark Stringer, Grandsons Chad Allen Stringer & Dustin DeWayne Stringer. Survivors are his wife of 68yrs Lois of Elkton, Ky, children Glenn & Hope Stringer of West Plains, Missouri, Jeff & Holly Stringer of Wynnewood, Oklahoma, Chris & Jo Stringer of Tishomingo, Oklahoma and Rita Kay Stringer of Guthrie, Kentucky, 14 Grandchildren, 30 Great Grandchildren also many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Celebration of life and services will be held at Winans Funeral Home, Maysville, Oklahoma at a later pending date.
