Dwight Slate

A Celebration of Life service for Dwight David Slate, age 77, of Cumberland Furnace, TN will be Saturday, February 19, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Sykes Funeral Home. Bro. David Mackens will officiate. Burial will follow at First Canaan Baptist Church Cemetery in Palmyra. The family will receive friends Saturday from 12:00 PM until the time of service at the funeral home.

Dwight, also known as Pappy, was born on December 30, 1944 in Clarksville, TN to Norman and Mary Moore Slate. He was received in the arms of our Lord,  Jesus Christ on February 14, 2022. Dwight was a 1963 graduate of Clarksville High School and then attended Austin Peay State University. He was a veteran of the United States Army National Guard and retired after 30 years as a supervisor from Trane. In his early years, Dwight enjoyed farming alongside his wife, Barbara and son, Jimmy. Dwight loved spending time with his family, cheering on the Tennessee Vols, going to church, and flower gardening.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by siblings, Robert Garner Slate and Lela Margaret Heer. Dwight is survived by his wife of 55 years, Barbara Brumley Slate; children, Jimmy Slate and Bridgitte (Mark) Wright; siblings: Mary Grace Larson, Shelby Jean Woodall, and Norma Sue Weber; grandchildren: Tiffany, Cody, Zachary, Taylor, and Joey; and 7 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt.
