Hendrik Vanderstoel

A Celebration of Life service for Hendrik Vanderstoel, age 97, of Cunningham, TN will be Sunday, November 19, 2023 at 3:00 PM at Bethel Baptist Church. Brian Henley and Hal Stone will officiate. Burial will follow at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 2:00 PM until the time of service.

Hendrik was born on November 4, 1926 in Nieuwerbrug aan de Rijn, The Netherlands to Simon and Elisabeth Vanderstoel. He passed away on November 4, 2023. Hendrik was a hard worker who loved history and stayed updated on current events. He loved serving the Lord, gardening, traveling, animals, visiting with friends, and meeting new people. Hendrik was a wonderful husband, father, uncle and Opa who will be missed greatly by his family. 

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Christopher Vanderstoel, 4 brothers, and 3 sisters. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Jacoba Catharina Vanderstoel; children: Jan ( Amy) Vanderstoel, Lis (Brian) Henley, Hendrik (Hiroko) Vanderstoel, Alex (Debbie) Vanderstoel, Margrietha (Tony) Schlotfeldt, and Catharina (Brett) Olds; 13 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and sisters, Mar van der Vis and Anna Vergunst.

Pallbearers will be Jan Vanderstoel, Hendrik Vanderstoel, Alex Vanderstoel, Tony Schlotfeldt, Brett Olds, David Henley, Simon Henley, Chris Vanderstoel, Martyne Vanderstoel, Leo Schlotfeldt, and honorary pallbearer Christopher Vanderstoel.

The family requests that bright colors be worn to the service and in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Bethel Baptist Church Youth Group, 2301 Hwy 13, Palmyra, TN, 37142
