LaVerda Mai Knight McCreary, 85 went to be with the Lord June 30, 2011 at her residence. A celebration of life service will be held Sunday July 3, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at Sykes Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bobby Kail and Verlon Moore officiating. Visitation will be Saturday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., and on Sunday 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens. Sykes Funeral Home & Crematory will be in charge of arrangements.
She was born December 24, 1925 in Montgomery County. She was preceded in death by her parents Hayden B. and Lillie Hamilton Greene; a sister Mildred Coleman; a brother Vernon Greene; husbands Allen Knight and William P. McCreary.
She was employed at B.F. Goodrich, later a homemaker and seamstress. She enjoyed reading, quilting, gardening, jig-saw puzzles, word puzzles and was the pianist at Blooming Grove Baptist Church, and sang in the choir. She taught Sunday School for 33 years at Hilldale Baptist Church, was a member at Crossland Avenue Baptist Church and was loved by everyone.
She is survived by brothers Erwin Greene of Cumberland Furnace; Wendell Greene of Paducah, KY; sister Beatrice Blackwell, Adams; Evelyn Davis, Clarksville and Mary Grace Bearden Britt of Cunningham. She has one daughter, Paula Knight Johnson, Clarksville; grandson Troy Johnson; granddaughter Robin Hammersley both of PA. two great granddaughters; four great grandsons; two great great grandsons; and numerous nieces and nephews. Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
