Maj Marvin Ficklin, Army (Ret)

November 14, 1931 — March 30, 2023

A Celebration of Life service for MAJ Marvin Dale Ficklin, ARMY (Ret), age 91, of Clarksville, TN, will be Thursday, April 6, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Sykes Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West where full military honors will be rendered. Bro. Nicholas Lennon will officiate. The family will receive friends from 9:30 AM until the time of service.

Marvin was born on November 14, 1931 in Petersburg, IN, to the late Julius Riley and Grace Mae Ficklin. He passed away on March 30, 2023. Marvin graduated Petersburg High School in 1950 and earned his BA in Social Science from Austin Peay State University in 1981. He retired from the United States Army, serving in many assignments throughout the world, including 3 tours in Vietnam and Federal Civil Service at Ft. Campbell, KY for a combined total of 37 years of service. Marvin's awards and decorations include: the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal with "V" Device and 16 Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Commendation Medal with Second Oak Leaf Cluster, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 7 Service Stars, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device, Meritorious Unit Commendation and the Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation. He was an active member of the Park Lane Church of the Nazarene and served 35 years as a volunteer on the City of Clarksville's Citizen's Advisory Task Force. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, gardening, and all outdoor activities. Most of all, he enjoyed his family and serving his church.

In addition to his parents, Marvin is preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Rebecca Ruth Ficklin; twin sisters, Adele and Maybelle; sister, Pansy; and brothers, Claude and Larry. He is survived by his children: Wendell (Ronda) Ficklin, Garvin Ficklin, Julia Lum, and Janet (Brian) Diamond; brothers, Jerry Ficklin and Dr. Fred Ficklin; sister, Martha Goad; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great- grandchildren.

Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Park Lane Church of the Nazarene, 225 Cunningham Lane, Clarksville, TN, 37042.
