Clarksville

Morris Neil Stevens, age 75, of Clarksville, Tennessee, passed away on May 11, 2025, at TriStar Centennial Medical Center in Nashville.

Born on April 12, 1950 in Columbia, Tennessee, Morris devoted his life to music, education, faith, and community. A gifted educator and mentor, he taught music, band, and choir for nearly four decades, beginning his career in 1972 and continuing through 2011. His teaching legacy spanned institutions such as Vanderbilt University, Trevecca Nazarene College, Montgomery Central High School (16 years), and Sycamore Middle School (14 years). Even after retiring, Morris continued sharing his love of music as a school representative for Music Central, supporting music programs and educators across the region.

He also gave generously of his time and talents to church youth ministry and music ministry. He served as choir director at First Church of the Nazarene for 10 years and later led the choir at Salem United Methodist Church for 9 years, where he found great joy in worship through music.

In addition to his educational and musical contributions, Morris served on the Montgomery County School Board from 2004 to 2007 and was the owner and operator of Superior Trophies from 1982 to 2018—always championing the achievements of others.

He also founded and ran summer band camps from 1982 to 2015, nurturing generations of young musicians with skill, care, and enthusiasm.

Morris was married to his beloved wife, Dianne, for 48 wonderful years, cherishing their life together until her passing in 2017. In his later years, he found laughter and love again with his dear companion, Debbie Byard.

He is survived by his children: Jeb Stevens of Clarksville, TN; Marcie (Jamie) Autry of Jackson, TN; and Taylor (Kari) Stevens of Chattanooga, TN. He was a proud grandfather to Hayden Stevens; Kaplan and Kai Autry; Lyla Stevens; Averly Mensing; Tucker Stevens; and Graham Stevens.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 4:00 p.m. on May 23, 2025 at Salem Community Church in Clarksville, with visitation beginning at 2:00 p.m. All who knew and loved Morris are invited to attend and honor his memory.
