Price graduated from Dickson, Tenn., high school, where he contributed to the Dickson paper. He graduated with a B.S. degree in English at Austin State in Clarksville, where he was editor of the college paper, a member and officer of various clubs, winner of the English scholarship, and man of the month.

His full-time newspaper career began in 1959 as a reporter at the Clarksville Leaf-Chronicle, and included editing positions (not in order) at Knoxville and Chattanooga, Tenn.; Fort Smith, Ark.; Franklin, Lynchburg, Richmond, Chesapeake, Fredericksburg and Newport News, Va.; Asheboro, N.C.; and Paducah, Ky, (where he retired in 2005). He received various civic awards while on some of the papers.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, James Price, Raymond, Tex Sherman and Johnny Mack Price, sisters, Shirley Faye Watson, Nancy Rager and Mary Jane Price. He is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Lisa Price, who was a probation and parole officer in Richmond, Va., before returning to Nashville and becoming a realtor and her husband Landon Funk; sisters, Bernice (Bill) Burton and Peggy (Juilo) De Jesus, Clarksville, Tenn; as well as numerous nephews and nieces, and mother of Jennifer, Petra Price.
