William Hugh “Woody” Woodall age 90 of Hendersonville, Tennessee died peacefully on March 22nd at his home after an extended illness.
Woody was born in Henrietta, TN (Montgomery County) on June 16, 1931 to Alfred Leslie Woodall and Texasarcola Hutchinson Woodall. A 1949 graduate of Clarksville High School, Woody enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1951. He married Ruby Josephine “Jo” Wilburn of Gallatin, TN in 1955, and they had two daughters. They were stationed in Smyrna TN, Mississippi, Japan (3 tours of duty), Germany and Texas over Woody’s 20- year Air Force career. They settled in Hendersonville, TN after he retired from the military at the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. Woody worked for Diebold Inc servicing and installing ATM’s for nearly 30 years. Raised in the Baptist church, Woody was saved at the age of 15, and served in his local church as clerk, deacon and Sunday School teacher. He cared for many family members in their later years including his wife, Jo prior to her death from cancer in 2005. Woody was active in the Air Force Sergeants Association and enjoyed traveling to their reunions. He enjoyed golf, electronics, computers, music and anything mechanical. He was known for his loyalty, dependability and generosity.
Woody married Deloise Bowen Smith of Mt Juliet, TN in October 2007. He was preceded in death by his parents Les and Cola Woodall, one sister Dorothy Atkins, and first wife Jo Woodall. He is survived by devoted wife and caregiver, Deloise “Dee” Woodall, daughters, Jeanne (Mike)Cox of Hendersonville, and Dr. Donna (Dr. Dwayne) Lett of Lebanon, TN, one granddaughter Madeline Gabrielle Lett. Bonus family members Julie (Scott) Terry of Portland, Maine, Sam (Katie Willis) Terry, Jacob Terry. Stephen (Judi)Smith of Lebanon, Stephen (Taylor) Smith, Josh (Allyson) Smith, Johnna Moore, many cousins, nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life service for Woody will be Monday, March 28, 2022 at 2:00 PM at McFerrin Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Hendersonville Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at the church from 11:00 AM until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to McFerrin Missionary Baptist Church Building Fund.
