William “Bill” Smith, age 76, passed away on February 13, 2022. A Celebration of Life service will be held Wednesday, March 9, 2022 at 12:00 PM at Sykes Funeral Home with full military honors. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until the time of service.
Bill was born in Lincolnton, North Carolina on May 31, 1945 to the late Thomas Smith and Bertha Huffman Smith. He was married to his loving wife Becky for 47 years. Bill entered the US Army when he was just 17 years 13 days old; he retired from the Army after 20 years of Service which encompassed 2 combat tours in Vietnam. After retiring from the Army, he graduated from an all-girl Catholic College with a History Degree. He taught Electronics at Northwest High School and was involved with the Adult Literacy Program in Clarksville, TN. Bill was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Bill was an artist and avid outdoors sportsman, especially fishing. He and Becky enjoyed RVing around the country with their “fur babies”.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by 5 brothers and 5 sisters. His father died when he was just 8 months old; his mother raised the family assisted by all the older siblings. Bill is survived by his wife Becky, his son Billy Smith, daughter Yvonne Armer, and son Phil Smith, as well as five grandchildren Jazmine, Jessica, Julia, Jake and Bailey and one great granddaughter Lilly. Sister and Brother in Laws include Lois, Anne and Polly Smith, Katrina Shepherd and Don Perry and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Bill was a member of Sugar Creek Baptist Church in Woodlawn, TN.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cancer Treatment Center, 600 Celebrate Life Parkway, Newnan, Georgia 30265.
