Beverly Jordan

d. November 15, 2022

A memorial service for Beverly Jordan will be held on Wednesday, December 7th, 2022 at 6:00 PM at the Faith Family Church at 495 Hugh Hunter Road, Oak Grove, KY 42262.

Beverly Anne Jordan was born on October 23, 1949, the eldest of three daughters to Niles and Evelyn Hanlin of Sperry, Oklahoma. She attended Sperry Schools prior to graduating and then attended Oklahoma State University and the University of Tulsa earning a degree in Elementary Education. She attended First Baptist Church of Sperry where she was saved and baptized. Though they had known one another most of their lives, she met the love of her life, Sydney Jordan at First Baptist. Their first date –as fitting as it seems – was a church picnic.

Sydney and Beverly were married on August 30, 1968, prior to heading to Stillwater as a married couple, where they continued their education until Sydney’s graduation and entrance into law school. Beverly completed her degree at the University of Tulsa and upon graduation accepted her first teaching position, a combination of 1st and 2nd grade at Prue Schools. The following year, Beverly accepted a position teaching Kindergarten at Skiatook Schools where she taught until the day before her first son was born in 1974.

Beverly’s commitment to her family was evident as she took a years-long sabbatical from teaching to raise her two sons before resuming her career when her youngest entered school in 1981.
Upon her return, she taught continually until her retirement in 2011. Her career spanned multiple school districts in Oklahoma including Prue, Skiatook, Sperry, Bartlesville and Owasso. In 2004, she retired from Skiatook Public Schools.

In 2004, Beverly and Sydney moved to Clarksville, Tennessee near Fort Campbell Army Post to be close to their son, Andy and his family Susan, Austin and Andrew. Andy had recently completed the US Army Special Forces course and was assigned to the Army’s 5th Special Forces Group at the height of
the Global War on Terror. She and Sydney knew that family was important and dedicated themselves to assisting Susan with their grandchildren as Andy was deployed much of the time.

Upon moving to Tennessee, Beverly again taught school in both Clarksville and Cheatham County, Tennessee prior to her final retirement in 2011. Throughout her career spanning 4 decades,
Beverly saw many changes in our education system, but the one thing that never wavered was her love, commitment and dedication to positively impact the lives of children. The lives she blessed easily number in the thousands.

She and Sydney threw themselves into their new community where they attended Charity Baptist Church and helped establish the Jonathan Edwards Classical Academy in Nashville, Tennessee. They also dedicated themselves to serving Army Families and Gold Star Families at Fort Campbell. They
were known to many as Santa and Mrs. Clause at numerous Christmas parties bringing joy to children, who at many times had not seen their Mom or Dad in months, and would not know when their Mom or Dad might return.

They later moved to Sarasota County, Florida where they spent their time supporting Sovereign Grace Bible Chapel and enjoying a well-deserved retirement. They also attended hundreds of baseball games across the southeast United States supporting their grandsons, Austin and Andrew in their endeavors to become collegiate baseball players.

All the while, Beverly and Sydney never lost their love for Oklahoma, their Family and the Black Gold Ranch near Skiatook. Even while in Tennessee and Florida they continually traveled to Oklahoma to visit their son, Fred and his family. Their love for their grandchildren in Oklahoma, Wilson and Reagan, is beyond measure, often splitting holidays to be with their grandchildren on both sides of the Mississippi River in one day. They also maintained their agricultural enterprises near Skiatook with the support of family and friends and their love for the land never wavered.

Beverly was predeceased by her parents Niles and Evelyn Hanlin, her sister Debbie Rupert and her father and mother-in-law Fred and Maxine Jordan. She is survived by her husband, Sydney and two sons Fred Jordan of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Colonel Andy (Susan) Jordan of Clarksville, Tennessee; four grandchildren Austin Jordan and Andrew Jordan of Clarksville, Tennessee and Wilson Jordan and Reagan Jordan of Tulsa, Oklahoma; sister Nyla (Alan) Downing of Sperry, Oklahoma and two brothers-in-law Bill Jordan of Raleigh, North Carolina and Kevin (Susan) Jordan of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Beverly is survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins that fondly refer to her as Aunt Beverly and as one recently quoted “she exuded love and had a way of making everyone feel special”.

Proverbs 31:
26 “She openeth her mouth with wisdom; And in her tongue is the law of kindness. 28 Her children arise and call her blessed; Her husband also, and he praiseth her. 30 Favour is deceitful, and
beauty is vain: But a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.”
